Gunn’s Camp is in a private concession, overlooking the well-known Chief’s Island, and adjacent to the Moremi Game Reserve.
The camp is one of the few remaining vintage safari camps in the Delta. It is set under ebony trees and palms, and offers comfort, but still allows you to feel close to nature.
The accommodation at the Main Camp is in 7 East African style deluxe tents. All tents are en suite, and are raised off the ground on wooden platforms, with a private veranda. There is also a honeymoon suite, which has been built into one of the ancient ebony trees, allowing for exceptional views of the waterways.
The island housing the accommodation is connected to the central camp area by a small causeway crossing the wetlands. Here you will find the elevated bar, lounge and dining room, campfire Boma and swimming pool.
Activities at camp are mainly water-based. A highlight is a mokoro (traditional dug-out) excursion, which is the most tranquil way of exploring the waterways of the Delta, and allow for some excellent bird and wildlife sightings. Full day excursions, including a bush walk can be arranged, complete with picnic lunch.
You might choose a guided walk, where you will learn much about the area and its fascinating environment.
In addition, there are motor-boat trips on the Boro River, which are particularly popular in the afternoon, when they include sun downers.
Guests have the opportunity to see a great variety of wildlife, including lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, hippo, and numerous plains game. The Delta is also home to a great variety of birds, including the Pel’s fishing owl, and endangered wattled crane.
NOTE: From May 2009, Gunn’s Main Camp and Bush Camp will offer the same style of tented accommodation. Bush Camp will have 17 tents, and Main Camp 8 tents. At present Bush Camp offers more rustic accommodation.
