The camp is on the banks of the Xudum River, in a private concession in the south west Okavango Delta. The concession includes a number of islands dotted with palm, fig, ebony and knob thorn trees, and the varied habitats allow for a good variety of species – both mammal and bird.
Guests are accommodated in 8 East African style tents, each of which is spacious, and placed on a raised deck – giving great views of the waterways and islands. Accommodation is en suite, with hot and cold running water, shower and flush toilet. Placement of the tents allows for privacy, yet still within a comfortable distance from the central Lodge area. There is also a honeymoon tent.
The central lodge area is home to the lounge, bar and dining room – all overlooking the River. At night there is a camp fire at the water’s edge. For relaxation, and some sun bathing, there is a small swimming pool.
Activities are varied, particularly as the camp is in a private concession, and can thus offer game drives that continue into the evening, and guided walks. Your guide assists in planning your days, and you can enjoy game drives, in the morning and late afternoon, which continue into the evenings. There are also mekoro (dug-out canoe) excursions, and a small powerboat – both excellent means to explore the waterways.
Birding, too, is excellent, and the concession is home to a seasonal heronry that bustles with activity from August to March. A guided walk is recommended, as this is arguably the best way to learn about the bush, and gives you the chance to track wildlife. You might also wish to try your hand at fly or spin fishing for tilapia (bream), African pike and sharptooth catfish, with the tackle provided by the camp.
