Shinde is set on a palm-rich island, in the northern section of the Okavango Delta, overlooking a lagoon.
The camp is small, and accommodates only 16 guests, in classic, en suite, safari tents. Each tent is mosquito proofed, and has a private viewing deck. The accommodation has been placed to allow for the best views of the lagoon and surrounding grasslands. Shinde is also a popular camp for honeymooners – where accommodation is in the honeymoon tent. Here you can enjoy the option of private breakfasts, and your days can be taken at a slightly more relaxed pace than a normal safari routine!
A unique tree house is the central focus of the camp. This construction has a raised, and tiered dining/lounge area set under canvas, which has been placed in the shade of ebony and mangosteen trees. You can also enjoy an open campfire (a great place to relax after dinner), and a bar. The camp also offers a plunge pool, for those hot afternoons.
The camp is in an area of diverse habitats, and therefore offers land and water-based activities, year-round. Game drives are conducted in the morning and afternoon/ evening. With a good diversity of wildlife, there is always something to see. As Shinde is in a private concession, there are also guided walks, which allow you to learn about tracking, and teach you an appreciation of this magnificent area.
In addition, mekoro (traditional dug-out), and small powerboats allow you the chance to experience the incredible bird, plant and reptile species found in the Delta. For fishermen, there is fly fishing, where you can try your hand a tilapia (bream) and tigerfish. Shinde provides the tackle, and fishing is best from May to November.
